One of the UK’s brightest songwriting prospects, Jess Thristan is a young lady who – at 19 – already has the maturity of a songwriter of much longer years. It helps that the talent is matched by a voice which is both melodic and lovely to listen to, and an approach to pop music which is both accessible and a little bit different.
Coming at the genre from a ‘singer-songwriter’ perspective, marrying acoustic chords to her excellent voice, Thristan is a rarity among female artists at the moment, and should benefit from the fact that she doesn’t seem to have too many peers in her niche. Many female performers are currently going the straight dance-pop route, but Thristan is more comfortable with an acoustic guitar than a thumping bass drum.
New single ‘Little Bird’ is yet more proof of this – already picking up national UK radio play as well as being showcased on the excellent On t’Sofa talent spotting channel. You can hear a laid back version of the new single now, in this video released on Monday:
