Previous Open Mic UK contestant Olivia Lawson now takes on The Voice

Previous Open Mic UK contestant Olivia Lawson has not only impressed the Open Mic UK music industry judges, she now has wowed coaches in the initial blind audition stages of BBC’s The Voice.


17-year-old Olivia Lawson reached the North East England Area Final of Open Mic UK’s 2014 singing competition, where she performed her own version of “We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off” by Jermaine Stewart at Dewsbury Town Hall.

Olivia Lawson wowed The Voice coaches at the blind auditions with her rendition of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and was snapped up by mentor Rita Ora.

New mentor Rita Ora hit her button just as Olivia was getting into her stride with the first chorus and by the time she’d sang her last note there was only Sir Tom Jones who hadn’t spun round to fight for her.
