MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
Introduce yourselves, what are your names and rolls in the band?
SOUNDSTREAM: Nice to meet you too!
Our band is a trio, consisting of Ann Pazyura, Yuriy ‘DJ Spacedreamer’ Muktarov and Denis ‘DJ FatCat’ Timish.
Ann is a lead vocalist, Yuriy is an MC and Denis is a keyboardist and composer.
MuzicNotez: How did you meet and form up? How long have you been together?
SOUNDSTREAM: At the beginning we existed as a duo. The initial line-up consisted of DJ FatCat and Alexander ‘Bulya’ Bulanov. At that time they were students of Kiev Polytechnic Institute, where they studied software development. In late 2009 Darya Bezkorovayna joined the band as a vocalist, but in early 2010 she decided to leave and was replaced by Ann. Two years late Alexander also decided to give up the music and in a few months Yuriy became our new member. So, with the current line-up we exist for approximately 4 years.
MuzicNotez: How did you come up with the name Soundstream?
SOUNDSTREAM: This name was born spontaneously. We decided to choose the first name, which came to mind π
MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the band you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
SOUNDSTREAM: Our main influences were German dance acts like Cascada, Scooter, DJs@Work, Culture Beat, Masterboy and others.
MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
SOUNDSTREAM: The greatest was probably Scooter concert in 2013, since this band is our main inspirer and mastermind.
MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
SOUNDSTREAM: We’d like to bring a revolution in dance music π
In other words – to create some new style no one heard before, at the same time not completely giving up our trademark sound.
MuzicNotez: Last year you released your 7th album entitled ‘Maxximum Drive’. How does this album differ from your previous 6?
SOUNDSTREAM: Since recently we started making experiments with Bigroom House genre, which is quite popular nowadays. And in our last album you can find a few tracks in this genre. But in general the album is rather diverse and you can find different genres on it, e.g. HandsUp, Dubstep, Eurodance, Hardstyle.
We try to take the best features from the 90s dance music as well as modern electronic music genres to create something unique.
MuzicNotez: Your latest release is the single ‘Waitin’ For Changes’, what was the inspiration behind this single?
SOUNDSTREAM: Well, this song contains ‘revolutionary’ lyrics. As you know, 2 years ago there was a revolution in Ukraine. At that time we all had a lot of hopes to get a better life. Unfortunately our expectations were not fulfilled. Our country still suffers from high levels of corruption and we see no real changesβ¦ And this song is like a cry from the heart and call for some actions. We are all still waiting for good changes.
MuzicNotez: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
SOUNDSTREAM: Of course, we are working on new material. Also we gonna sign a contract with a label soon (we can’t currently tell its name, let it be a secret π and you’ll find our new tracks on its compilations. Don’t know how soon a new album will be ready, but we hope it will be out next year.
MuzicNotez: Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
SOUNDSTREAM: We are alive and our music is alive! Expect for new hits! π
