Named after The Hague (home of the Netherlands’ government), Den Haag are a rock four piece from the South of England with a love for New Wave pop/rock. Moulding their sound to fit this style, ‘Bleak Unknown’ is their first full length album and a follow up to a debut EP released last year.
Retaining the same rough and ready approach of its predecessor, ‘Bleak Unknown’ is a good sign of further development from the band. Still driven by the drums and bass in many cases, colour is then added by the melodic guitar lines and the droned vocals – which have made a step forward as well.
Opener ‘Haunted’ sets the stall out very well, setting the pattern for the rest of the release with ease. It’s pace and production are wilfully raw, a description that fits this band perfectly.
