Julie Diano was born in Burgundy, France. She started studying music when she was 5 years-old by playing the piano then for more than 15 years at the music conservatoire in Dijon where she learnt the oboe and the viola. She was also in a medieval music band and she toured in France for 3 years. Julie discovered her love of performing at an early age both with music and acting but it is only when she moved to London, 1 year and a half ago, that she took singing lessons. She quickly decided to sing her own music and so the writing of numerous songs followed.
Julie’s singing is described as sensitive and passionate with a really nice aggressive quality voice that also sounds light and fragile at times. Her music is considered as very cinematic, quirky, feminist, characterful and poetic. Julie’s writing skills have been hailed and the quality of her lyrics has been noticed in particular because she avoids the stereotypical sappy pop lyrics.
Recent performances include The Spice of Life, The Troubadour, The Dublin Castle, The Ritzy Upstairs, The Bedford, The New Cross Inn, The Merton Abbey Mills, The Icarus Club, The Zebrano Club, The White Lion, The Electric Social (London) and Le Point de Bascule (Marseille, France).
