MuzicNotez: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you Nicole, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
What motivated you to start creating music? What age did you begin?
Nicole Nirvana: What motivated me was my LOVE for writing poetry and singing. For instance, in 2004, I won the Editor’s Choice Award on poetry.com and I’ve always been a singer. In the gospel choir, school choir, just somewhere singing since the age of 10. I didn’t begin writing songs until I was in my 20’s.
MuzicNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Nicole Nirvana: When it comes to music I love so many artist its hard just to name a few. All different genres, from Babyface to Madonna to Kings Of Leon..the list just continues from there..
MuzicNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
Nicole Nirvana: The best concert I’ve been to so far has to be The Late Teena Marie and the Isley Brothers. Which was Phenomenal!!!
MuzicNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
To be one of the best songwriters to ever live. I want everyone to say she writes great songs. I don’t have to be known as the greatest singer..I want to be known for my words..
MuzicNotez: 50% of your sales go to the charity ‘Sweet Relief’, what do they do?
Nicole Nirvana: Sweet Relief Musicians Fund provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are struggling to make ends meet while facing illness, disability, or age-related problems. In other words, Healing Musicians in Need.
MuzicNotez: You’ve had some new music released recently, how do these new releases differ from the previous? How has your music evolved?
Nicole Nirvana: I’ve grown musically. I’ve lived life more, so now I write deeper, different and more dramatic. I hear melodies different now, I think at first I wrote like a young woman, now I write like a grown woman!
MuzicNotez: You work with a very talented producer named Dave Masterz, how’d you hook up and how is your writing style together?
Nicole Nirvana: Yes, Dave Masterz is SUPER talented in a lot of ways. To make a long story short, we’ve been together prior to us coming into the music industry. As far as my writing style with Masterz I don’t have one. I write songs constantly with a beat or without one. They (songs) appear in my head like visions. The same goes for Masterz and his music productions..Atmospheric!
MuzicNotez: You have extremely loyal fans, what’s the greatest moment you’ve had with them? What kind of advice do you have for other artists to achieve the fan base you have?
Nicole Nirvana: Yes, I do! (laughing) I really appreciate them! The greatest moment is everyday. My advice is to deliver good music, stay humble and be yourself!!
MuzicNotez: How do you believe the internet helps or hurts the industry or you as a musician today in comparison to the past?
Nicole Nirvana: The internet helps grow your fan base and promotes your music to places you would have never been able to reach compared to the past. It only hurts when someone is being hateful verses criticize. There’s a BIG difference.
MuzicNotez: Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
Nicole Nirvana: Yes, I would like to tell all my fans I love them SO MUCH! I will always be there for them! I would also like to mention that Dave Masterz and I have recently joined forces with AAM (Alexandria Armani Management) which is part of International Dynasty. Also, I have a Full length album titled “Buried Secrets” coming out this year!!! I have 3 singles off this album out now and will be releasing more music off the album very soon.
