MuzicNotez Crew: First off, it’s an honor to be doing this interview with you, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us.
Introduce yourselves, what are your names and rolls in the group?
Main Girl: I’m Jahna, I’m Deja and I’m Shabreia, and together we are, Main Girl!
MuzicNotez Crew: How did you meet and form up? How long have you been together?
Main Girl: Shabreia: Our manager “G” had put together a showcase looking for females for a singing group. Jahna and I were attending Duke Ellington together at the time and Deja was a part of the audition. The group has been together for 6 yrs now.
MuzicNotez Crew: How did you come up with the name Main Girl?
Main Girl: Jahna: We had about 20 names on a board and “Main Girl” was one. Our manager George said, “let’s not worry about a name, it will come to us when it’s time.” A producer came in to our studio for a session and said to our manager, “those girls are dope, who’s the “Main Girl” in the group?” He said, “they’re interchangeable, they all have the ability to sing lead, it just depends on the feel of the song.” Just like “Voltron” they all had their own special powers but they come together to create a super robot known as “Voltron.” We come together to create a super group known as, “Main Girl.”
MuzicNotez Crew: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the band you are today? Or helped mold the music that you create?
Main Girl: Deja: I woud say Brandy
Jahna: Mines would be Lauren Hill
Shabreia: Beyonce, I love how she commands the Stage.
MuzicNotez Crew: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to or performed?
Main Girl: Shabreia: We opened up for August Alsina June 8th. It was a sold out concert and with it being 95% a female crowd the responds that gave us was crazy!
MuzicNotez Crew: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
Main Girl: Jahna: We want our records to touch people. We want our generation to say, dang, I’m going through that, or I’ve been there before. Our songs are like conversation pieces with our friends/fans.
MuzicNotez Crew: Your latest release is ‘Lose It’, what was the motivation behind this? What’s the song mean to you?
Main Girl: Deja: We wanted something out the norm. Something more mature then we’re use to doing.
Shabreia: “Lose it” is edgy but fun. It’s like a tease, which makes it fun laughing
MuzicNotez Crew: You have a very exciting future! Where do you hope to be in 5 years?
Main Girl: Jahna: I know it’s a big hill to climb but we want to be the biggest female group of all time! If we don’t want to be the best then we’ve already lost.
MuzicNotez Crew: What else are you working on? What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
Main Girl: Deja: We are actually working on an overseas tour. Hopefully we can get that finalized. We are also working on an EP, and looking to get some major collabs.
MuzicNotez Crew: Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music? Any message for your fans?
Main Girl: Deja: We want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to share our story.
Jahna: Yeah, thank you and make sure to go to Itunes and download our just released single, Lose It.”
Shabreia: We just want to thank all of our #MGRiders for riding with us and we’re going to make you guys proud.
