Saulo Davis

Saulo Davis’s MNotez Interview:

  • MNotez: How long have you been a musician? What age did you begin?
    • Saulo Davis: Saulo Davis’ involvement with music began at the Shadbolt Centre for the Performing Arts. Saulo played Flute for seven years starting at the age of 7. His involvement with the Kamloops Interior Summer School of Music sparked a love for singing. Saulo began singing classically. His ten years singing with the VOC Soul gospel Choir encouraged and influenced Saulo to begin writing his own music. From his first recording “Sliding Doors” at the age of sixteen to now- a complete album “Lifted” and recognition on an international stage Saulo can confidently say that his dream is coming alive.
  • MNotez: What motivated you to start creating music?
    • Saulo Davis: Saulo has been surrounded and influenced by music his entire life. Writing and recording music now seems like such a natural progression for this young artist. Someone once told him “write and write some more and eventually something amazing will come along.”
  • MNotez: Who were your musical influences, idols, or bands growing up that have helped mold you into the musician you are today? Or helped mold the music that you play?
    • Saulo Davis: Saulo’s influences and idols range from composers such as Mozart and Andrew Lloyd Weber to music legends such as Tina turner and Boyz 2 Men. Folk music like that of the Rankin Family and Rita McNeal has also been an influence in this musician’s life. Acts such as Aalyiah and Genuwine have also been great influences in Saulo’s musical style. All of these sounds and rhythms fused together and accompanied by Saulo’s life experiences are the pieces that combine to create the Saulo Davis sound.
  • MNotez: What’s the greatest concert you’ve ever been to?
    • Saulo Davis: Saulo attended an Alice Cooper Concert at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver BC. It was one of the most electric and rockin experiences of this young mans life.
  • MNotez: If you could play with any other musician or band… who would it be? (past or present)
    • Saulo Davis: Performing with Aaliyah or Timbaland would be an amazing experience. Being able to share a stage with greats such as Tina Turner, Bob Dylan or Alanis Morissette would be incredibly humbling experiences. There are many but one of recent would be Chris Nathan. It would be an honor to be able to work with him.
  • MNotez: What’s the ultimate goal you want your music to achieve, or for you to achieve in your career as a musician? Any particular message you wish to send?
    • Saulo Davis: Saulo’s dream has been and remains to be invoking feeling out of his listeners. Allowing an outlet for others to grieve, smile and dance. Connecting with a crowd and sharing three minutes of a song that we can all keep and be able to share for a life time. Music is a gift and Saulo wants to share that gift with as many to help and involve as many people as he possibly can!
  • MNotez: Do you prefer recording your music… or playing it live?
    • Saulo Davis: I enjoy the process of creating and performing a song. The long hours in the studio lend themselves to strong character building. The exhilaration of performing in front of a crowd allow for connection and confidence and a sense of great accomplishment.
  • MNotez: Do you have any rituals before going on stage? Anything you do to get ready?
    • Saulo Davis: I dance! I listen to a song in my head and just do a dance; a funny freeing ritual which helps me with nerves.
  • MNotez: Out of all your songs… do you have a favorite? What is it? And why?
    • Saulo Davis: My Favorite song would have to be the first song I ever wrote, “Told You” This is my favorite song for the simple reason that it was the song that made me believe I could do this and be successful!
  • MNotez: How do you believe the internet helps the music industry or you as a musician?
    • Saulo Davis: The internet is a great tool. This tool allows musicians like myself to in seconds be heard internationally. From being played on online radio stations to write ups on various websites I have received many fans via [word of net].
  • MNotez: What methods do you use to write your music?
    • Saulo Davis: One method I use is life inspirtation. Sometime I just feel a song and it comes out. Another method is listening to others words and life experiences and writing about that. Another method is experimenting with various chord progressions and seeing what comes about. Lyrically I write about life and how it feels to live being me and from other perspectives.
  • MNotez: : Anything else you wish to say about yourself or your music?
    • Saulo Davis: Thank You for this opportunity. For those who would like to visit my website please do so at you will find the Saulo Music store where you can purchase my new album “Lifted”
